<< Back CERTIFICATION TO PRACTICE PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
I. DEFINITION OF CONCEPTS
1. General Theoretical Training: Attendance and completion of at least 200 university or post-university hours of clinical courses and seminars with case presentations from the whole range of psychic pathology: neuroses, psychoses, borderline. The following types of classes and seminars can be considered general training hours: psychiatry, clinical psychology (medical), psychopathology, psychological techniques/tests of clinical investigation, psychotherapy, psychiatric semiology, psychosomatics, etc.
2. Specialized Theoretical Training: Completion of 200 hours of classes and seminars organized by RAPP, & by university or post-university programs, in the fields of theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
3. Training/Supervising Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist: A psychotherapist certified by RAPP to provide training and supervision of psychoanalytic psychotherapies, and to be a member of RAPP Professional Committee (see V.)
4. Personal Training Psychotherapy: At least 4 years, of 3 sessions per week, individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy with a RAPP training/supervising psychoanalytic psychotherapist[1].
5. Individual Clinical Supervision: Two individual supervisions of two psychoanalytic psychotherapy cases. The patients must be seen at least 2 times per week in one case, and 3 times a week in the second. Each case must be supervised , once a week, for a duration of at least two years, by two different RAPP certified training/supervising psychoanalytic psychotherapists.
6. Group Clinical Supervision: (2-hour case presentation & discussion) Clinical group discussions conducted during monthly RAPP meetings. It is required that: · At least two training/supervising psychoanalytic psychotherapists are present during case presentations; · The psychotherapist-in-training presents cases from his clinical practice periodically and, · Attends each year a minimum of 7 out of 11 monthly RAPP meetings.
II CERTIFICATION.
Minimum Prerequisites for Certification:
1. Licensed diploma graduate in: Psychology, Medicine, Social Work, Sociology, Pedagogy, Special Psycho-pedagogy and Philosophy.
2. Completion of all 200 hours of general training (see I, 1)
3. Completion of at least 150 sessions of personal training psychotherapy (see I, 4) .
4. Membership[2] to the Romanian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (RAPP).
Application for Certification:
To request certification to practice psychoanalytic psychotherapy under any certification category (see III, 1-3), the person who fulfills items 1-4 above, must submit to RAPP a file containing the followings documents: · Application that specifies the requested certification category. · C.V. with details about completion of relevant clinical and training activities. · Authenticated copies of license(s), diploma(s), and corresponding grade transcripts. · Documents that verify the fulfillment of requirements for the requested certification category.
III. CERTIFICATION CATEGORIES & THEIR REQUIREMENTS:
1. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Certificate to “Practice under Supervision” .
Minimum requirements:
a) The fulfillment of minimum prerequisites for certification (II, 1-4).
b) A written agreement with a training/supervising psychoanalytic psychotherapist to commence the first individual clinical supervision. The supervisor will share with the supervisee the professional responsibility regarding therapeutic technique & strategies used in the supervised case.
The certification to “practice under supervision” will be granted by the Professional Committee of RAPP, based on an interview with the candidate. The case presentation given to become a member of RAPP can be used as main reference for the evaluation of the candidate.
2. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Certificate for “Independent Practice”.
Minimum requirements:
a) Completion of personal training psychotherapy.
b) Completion of 2 individual clinical supervisions.
c) Completion of minimum 20 hours of group clinical supervision.
d) Completion of at least 200 hours of specialized theoretical training (cap.I, 2) in the study of psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic technique, psychoanalytic semiology, psychoanalytic psychotherapy etc. These hours must be different from those already counted under the general theoretical training requirement and, may be completed through other lectures, seminars, post-graduate classes, programs, RAPP training activities, "Dutch School" theoretical-clinical seminars, and IPA Study Group Seminars.
e) Completion of a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice that includes at least 2000 hours of individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy sessions.
The evaluation for independent practice certification will be based on two different psychoanalytic psychotherapy case presentations given in front of two different members of the Professional Committee of RAPP (who have not been either personal psychotherapists or supervisors of the candidate during his/her training), with final agreement of the simple majority of the members of this committee.
3. "Training/Supervising Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist" Certificate.
Minimum requirements:
a) At least 5 years, after obtaining the certification for independent practice, of intensive (full time) practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, with a minimum total of 7,000 hours.
b) Ongoing scientific and/or didactic involvement in the field of theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
c) Active participation in RAPP Assembly group supervision meetings.
The certificate for training/supervising psychoanalytic psychotherapist will be granted by the Professional Committee of RAPP based on an interview with the candidate and with the vote of simple majority of the members of this committee.
IV. TERMS OF CERTIFICATE RENEWAL
All certification categories are valid for 5 years from the date issued. At the end of the 5 year period, the Professional Committee of RAPP recommends renewal or withdrawal of certifications based on review.
1. Minimum criteria for certificate renewals:
a) Continuous practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
b) Continuous membership affiliation with RAPP.
c) Good somatic and psychic health.
2. Circumstances that can lead to withdrawal of certificate:
a) Serious violations of ethical and professional norms.
b) Termination of the membership affiliation to RAPP.
c) Serious deterioration of somatic and/or mental health, deemed
of impeachable consequences to clinical performance upheld by RAPP certification
standards.
